Well Constructed

KingWood Premium Cedar Owl House Box In tree

The Kingwood Owl House is very well constructed of cedar, which should be weather resistant for a long while. It's not hard to mount in a tree so long as you have a ladder - mine is about 15 feet up. I did, however, use two 4 inch stainless lag bolts in place of the two screws provided - the two screws didn't seem to be sufficient, although I'm sure they would have probably worked. The owl house was pre-drilled for the screws, so I just enlarged the existing holes to accommodate the lag bolts - easy to do. I also added a perch to the front, which I made from a broom handle - of course, you don't have to do this. I also nailed some flashing around the trunk of the tree to discourage predators - there are a lot of racoons in the area. Be sure to mount your owl house facing south so that it's shielded from the north wind. And also make sure that the owls have an unobstructed approach to the opening - this is important, since otherwise they won't nest in the owl house. We've had plenty of barred owls in the area so I'm pretty confident that some will nest in this house. - Jim Raines
